Women fear weight gain, cellulite, stretch marks, and wrinkles when they start aging slowly. But, worldwide, millions of women and young girls suffer from cervical carcinoma, and still, many people are unaware of it. So, here in this article, we will discuss some essential critical points regarding cervical cancer or carcinoma.

What is cervical cancer?

Cervix is a part of the uterus of our internal genital organs. It is usually five to seven centimeters in diameter and stretches up to twenty times more than its usual size during childbirth. Such extensive capacity of changing and adapting destroys these cells’ regenerating capacity. As a result, abnormal proliferation of normal cells turns into cancerous cells, which are familiar as cervical carcinoma.

Another mechanism

Sometimes the cells in the cervical region go through genetic mutation and transform themselves into another variety of cells. This process is familiar with metaplasia. Cellular metaplasia is a significant reason for cervical cancer in young ladies.

Susceptible group

The epidemiological and demographic variation is significant to identify and screen out the high-risk group. Though carcinoma is a disease of older age, the process starts at a younger age. So, it is easier to identify cervical carcinoma patients and treat them properly for an outstanding outcome.

Etiology

Initiation of sexual intercourse at a very young age is the most important cause of cervical carcinoma these days. So, we can prevent it effectively by increasing the age limit of marriage for both males and females. Also, strict religious and family values are helpful. Then comes the multiple partner factor.

Multiple partners

Multiple sex partners are a massive risk factor for getting cervical carcinoma at a very young age. The more the partners, the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and pelvic inflammatory diseases increase. If a lady has only one partner but has multiple sex partners, that can also be a provocative factor for cervical neoplasm.

Multiple kids

Getting pregnant very frequently or having kids is another essential factor in developing cervical carcinoma. Each pregnancy changes the cellular architecture of the cervix more than the last one, and it can cause cervical carcinoma. So, lower socioeconomic countries have a higher rate of cervical carcinoma among females than in developed countries.

Other factors

Other factors are contributing to cervical carcinoma too. Here, Persistent cervical inflammation, past infection with human papillomavirus, genital herpes, genital warts, and such play essential roles in producing cervical carcinoma.

How to prevent it?

Cervical carcinoma is a scary disease, but it is preventable if we diagnose it early and treat it appropriately. So, there is a module of the screening program, and in most countries, it is a necessary test these days.

Pap test

Pap smear or exfoliative cytology from the cervical region to detect any cellular abnormality in the early stages is a cheap and convenient test to detect cervical carcinoma. It gives immediate results and the opportunity to refer the patient to the higher center if necessary.

VIA test

Visual inspection test via acetoacetic acid is another very cheap and fast test to detect a cervical abnormality. Then comes the cervical colposcopy, biopsy, and such tests to confirm the diagnosis.

Cervical carcinoma Vaccines

Nowadays, there are vaccines available to fight against cervical carcinoma. Usually, the papillomavirus strain 16 and 18 are more prone to cause cervical carcinoma. So, Cervarix and Gardasil are the two available vaccines in the market to prevent cervical carcinoma.

Any sexually active woman should perform a pap test at least once in three years after the age of twenty-one.
